In the journey towards healing and renewal, we should always be weary of the temptation that we can accomplish life change on our own. While many people read John 3:16 to say that we must choose to believe in Christ on our own, choosing to believe is never as simple as a cognitive decision that many make it out to be. Our ability to believe is determined by so many factors. We ought to be grateful for the many ways we are able to believe. Life change is similar. We cannot simply choose to live differently, we need support: a struggling alcoholic needs a sponsor and a community that he/she can be vulnerable with; a teenager battling an eating disorder cannot simply choose to see himself or herself differently in the mirror, he/she needs a supportive community. Who are the people in your life that you can support? Who are the people in your life that support you?
